Did OutKast just give us our release date?
"I want to be honest / I don't want to be right" - Khingz, UberDash
Today we are excited to present the second single from Khingz’ forthcoming LP A Safe Place For Us, “Uber Dash”, featuring his son Prince! If you’ve been keeping track, this is the fourth single of our Abyssinian Creole summer, leading up to the release of our new albums A Safe Place For Us / From The Ashes of Our Homes, which we’ve been thinking of all year as an OutKast - Speakerboxxx / The Love Below kind of moment.
We didn’t realize it until this morning, but the day of our headlining show at the Clock-Out Lounge in Seattle, where we are playing most of these songs live with AbJo’s The Good Foot band for the first time? It also JUST so happens to be the 20 year anniversary of Speakerboxxx / The Love Below.
I was hesitant to say “this is the release date!” until we got the final mastered versions of our albums in hand… but with this new information, I think the universe may have just picked our release date for that Saturday, September 23rd.
Tickets for the show in Seattle are still available here.
If you’ve missed any of our Abyssinian Creole Friday releases from earlier this summer, you can check the Substack archives here, and you’ll find some new music playlists from the time I was off the radio as well.
I’ve been back at KEXP these last few weeks, doing a radio show every weekday from 5-7am (pacific time) so for new music this week, I’m gonna encourage you to check out KEXP’s archives here for any episodes of the radio show you may have missed.
My last show on KEXP is September 12th, and at that time I plan on making this newsletter the primary place for all my new music mixes, every single Friday.
