I started working on an album in 2020 that the world will never hear. It was before the world changed overnight, just months before we all collectively went into survival mode. That same year we all experienced a pandemic unlike anything we had gone through before, when we were all losing loved ones so fast and in so many ways, my partner and me also had to flee a house fire with no shoes and nothing but the clothes on our backs, and a war in my mother's homeland forever altered how I even think about the concept of home. I couldn't make the album I set out to do then, not when everything was changing so fast.
I started a gig that same year, hosting a radio show every weekday morning, and I really feel like we DJ'ed our way through the apocalypse. In the years that followed, most times that I sat down to work on my own music, I had a huge block with the material I was working with.
That was all until late last year when Vitamin D sent me a few instrumentals to work with.
Writing this song, Spacetime, was a breakthrough that helped me get to the rest of my album, followed by a conversation with Khingz earlier this year, which got me into really fully producing my own music for the first time.
I ended up making a majority of the beats on this new album, along with a few key contributions from other folks, like this one from Vita.
The new album is called From The Ashes of Our Homes, and it was made in concert with a new album from Khingz titled A Safe Place For Us.
As a crew, we're gonna be releasing a new single every week for the rest of the summer... leading up to the release of both albums in September.
For our Seattle folks, tickets are still available for our show at the Clock-Out, and if you wait until we announce who else is on the bill you might not be able to get tickets anymore! Tickets are available here now.
I really hope y'all feel everything we put into this music... when I say this one is different, I mean it feels like I didn't even really make albums before this one.
Much love,
GT
PS: In the spirit of Bandcamp Friday, here are some other recent releases that I think you’ll love.
