New music in honor of Creative Justice!
One of my favorite community organizations (and the only org that could talk me into sitting on its board) is celebrating it’s 10 year anniversary this week!
Creative Justice is an arts and culture, restorative justice, healing engaged space for youth and young adults targeted by the school-to-prison-pipeline. If you want to have a deeper listen about the work they do, be sure to check out the episode of Worldwide Underground I did earlier this year with CJ’s ED, the one and only nikkita oliver!
If you are in Seattle, there is a gallery opening tonight at 6PM over at Indigo Slate (316 2nd Ave S) celebrating the artwork young people have created as a part of Creative Justice over the last decade, and tomorrow night, December 6th at Washington Hall (152 14th Ave), Creative Justice is releasing both an album and a film that you can be the first to see starting at 6pm! I was lucky enough to participate in both projects, and the album project in particular feels like a preview of things to come from me.
I’ve got two songs on the compilation. One is a brand new solo track from me called “Violent State”, and the other is a song I actually produced for Rell Be Free and Khingz entitled “Cacti”. Listen to both songs, and let us know what you think!
The album release also happens to coincide with Bandcamp Friday, where Bandcamp gives 100% of the sales on its website to the artists. For this compilation, 100% of the funds raised are going to support the vital work that Creative Justice is doing for young folks here in Seattle, WA, so buying the album specifically this Friday is a great way to support!
The compilation is here: creativejustice.bandcamp.com
And tickets for tomorrow night’s event are here: creativejusticenw.org/10years
Tomorrow night’s show also features live performances from The Neighborhood Kids, Rell Be Free, Khingz, IaMcHaMeL, Aurelio Valdez, DJ Yaddy and myself!
More soon. Including an album announcement in the new year that I don’t think any of y’all are expecting 😉
